Heavy Metal Drummer

Friday was insane. I finally slept in, it was glorious. then I went down stairs and listen to my dad talk to one of the new guys at his job on the phone. You have to understand about my dad that he's not an incredibly social person. This guy has been calling him alot and is determined to be friends with my dad. My dad had this look of agony on his face during the entire phone call. My dad is in an involuntary bromance.

After my dad's new bff got off the phone we did our typical father daughter bonding activities such as watch cheaters. It's really terrible to sit there an laugh at these people but some of their reactions I cant help but laugh. Then I had to pry myself away from cheaters because I had to drive back to Marietta because I was supposed to learn how to run sound at Swayze's. As I was saying bye to my dad i get in Tupac, put my key in the ignition and then i hear.......nothing. I turn the key again and I hear.........nothing. Well Shit. So I had to leave Tupac in North Georgia and take my dad's 07 Impala Barney the driving purple people eater. I love driving Barney because he's much nicer. The radio works, there are REAL CUPHOLDERS, all the speakers work, The AC works, I HAVE A CD PLAYER!!! But despite all these major upgrades I still miss Tupac. But Barney does have alot of get up and go so I drove like a bat out of hell and got to Marietta with 30 Minutes to spare. baller.

Running sound was crazy easy. It was nerveracking running the sound at first. But It ended up being some of the easiest stuff I've ever done in my life. I got trained by a 17 year old on how to do it in 20 minutes. It was weird talking to this kid about all this stuff! Don't get me wrong, he was SUPER nice and even pulled out a chair for me to sit on (who says chilvary is dead?)but this kid just seemed SO much younger and come to find out he goes to my high school. He also started the year I graduated and I started tell him about the bands I used to come see there (that have all pretty much since broken up)and he was hanging out with his girlfriend and her friends at different points and they all just looked so young! Anyway after a while of him showing me what buttons to push and making myself feel incredibly old he says to me, "So you're good to do the next one by yourself right?" I go into a moment of OH SHIT. I'm just like "Yeah dude I'm good." when all I'm thinking is "Oh shit if I fuck this up I'm gonna have alot of angry metal bands and kids rush me back here, attack me and rip me apart and make some sort of brutal metal moment out of it." No Pressure.

Me running sound by myself went suprisingly well. The first two bands of the night pretty much either A) sucked, B) Were trying to seem like another popular band, C)Were incredibly pretentious, or D) All the above. One band thanked Jesus and introduced all their members while having their guitarist play this ridiculous solo, and then ended their set by saying, "We just want to let you know that everything we do is in honor of our lord Jesus Christ, and any compliments you give us are just big thank yous and we have a merch table over there where you can buy our EP and shirts." Um....really? Did you just play the Jesus card AND ask me to buy your shitty bands shitty CD? They also had the audience do the Jimi Hendrix fire fingers. This kid, definetely not Jimi Hendrix. The band after them was much worse and much harder to run sound for as well. They were trying to seth themselves up like White Chapel. They had 3 guitarists, 2 singers (including this one 15 year old girl who was trying to look all goth/punk/emo/scene who couldnt sing. seriously she sang so softly we had her mic on full blast and you still couldnt hear her.) 1 drummer (only thing that was normal about them) and 2 bass players. Total number of kids in the band: 7. NO BAND NEEDS 7 PEOPLE, ESPECIALLY WHEN NOBODY HAS ANY TALENT!!!!!! Honestly it just sounded like a mess. And one of the best parts was they had like everyone in their families there. Watching toddlers run around Swayzes is just weird. Also the girl's grandpa was filming the whole show. I about died laughing. I normally don't do band shout outs because I'm not a music blogger but Valbanera played an acoustic set and it was really good. If you're in Marietta and they're playing, Go.

Finally the night at Swayze's was coming to an end and I was STARVING. Because my car had died that morning I was late leaving north Georgia and when I made it to Marietta I got to choose either getting ready or eating. I couldn't do both and not be late. I was planning on eating THE taco bell I was that hungry. I picked up my best friend and his brother and fly to taco bell. Then we got back had a few drinks and watched Jersey Shore. All in all very good night.

That was my day. Much thanks to Everybody at Swayze's Venue. And final thought: Yes you can go to places like the Masq and phillips and see bigger bands and theres nothing wrong with that but please take some time to go to smaller venues and support local music.
